I’m looking into upgrading my cell phone. It is, after all, almost 3 years old. And in all of my research, I’m finding that by not staying on top of the technology I’m my own worst enemy. Currently, I’m on one of the largest (and most expensive) networks and discovered that I’m only getting 4G on my old phone while friends and family are zipping along at 4LTE. No wonder my texts are always the last ones in even if I send it a minute earlier. If you read one of my text threads, it’s like I’m having a completely different conversation than others on the thread. My data speeds are so much slower hence my connection is not optimal, which is completely aggravating because my practice is all about connection. Operating systems have gone from Kit Kat to Lollipop because apparently cute names make high tech more palatable (no pun intended) and desirable. And to think that all of this is going on inside a device that is a little larger than the size of my hand.
Someone once told me that there is more technology and power inside a smart phone than in the computers NASA used to launch rockets in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s hard to believe that something so small can carry so much power but thanks to those who use their imaginative minds and could foresee the future, this has become our new reality.
And if cell phones, computers, smart TVs, and all those other technological wonders are constantly being upgraded what about us? You know, human beings, the ones who are creating all of these amazing tools, how do we upgrade? How do we make change? I believe an important way we upgrade is by going inside, deep inside, just like those programmers go into our smartphones to install a better version of software that gives us really cool tools like GPS, Siri, HD cameras and video recorders in order to enhance our connection to the world around us. We have the ability to connect to the deepest part of ourselves that is wiser, brighter, and faster than any computer that could ever be built. And all you have to do is take the time to slow down, go within to connect, listen, and allow what comes up to inform and guide you. It’s the most powerful network in the Universe and it’s all happening within you.
